I was told not to long ago that I could possibly have an anxiety disorder. Any lists of symptoms or types of disorders would be great. thanks.

i never knew i had an anxiety problem until i got a blood test. my doctor told me i was very stressed out and i never realized i just kept those thoughts in the back of my head and blocked them out which is a horrible thing to do. i ended up with a terrible ulcer which gave me sever pains for 4 months. i did some research and found some tell tail signs of an anxiety problem and i have almost all of them. grinding of teeth, anti-social, hands shake uncontrollably, when trying to go to sleep so many thoughts in my head i lay in bed for hours. finally i got a prescription from my doctor but that is just a waste of time because the drug was so weak that id be better off becoming an alcoholic and forgetting my thoughts then taking that crap from the doctor.
i know that social anxiety disorder is one
A few basic ones are:
1- Generalized anxiety disorder – you have a “free floating” sense of anxiety that’s not really attached directly to one thing in particular. The anxiety is uncontrollable and excessice. So really you’re just worried about everything.
2- Phobias – You have one thing that really freaks you out to the point that it interferes with your normal daily functioning
3- Panic Attacks – A lot of people experience these. You get really anxious for no reason at all with a lot of physical symptoms (racing heart, feeling of chocking, sweating, etc). Or, your anxiety is really out of proportion with the situation. (Totally sucky. I get these often)
4- Panic Disorder with Angoriphobia – You get panic attacks and because of the fear of getting them you find it hard to leave the house or go into public situations
5- Social Phobia – When you’re in public you get really anxious. Primary concern is being embarassed or humiliated
Etc, etc. I know of a few more but those are the most common forms. If you have any specific questions about them feel free to ask.
I had agorophobia. Started out with panic attacks, felt like I couldn’t breathe, was going to die for no apparant reason. It quickly escalated to the point that I couldn’t leave my house. I was a married adult and my mother was the only person that I felt could help me out of these attacks. I made her move in with me and if she had to leave me for any reason I would have a full blown attack. Took me five years and a great doctor to “unlearn” this behavior. If this sounds familiar, please feel free to e-mail me. I’m happy to try to help. Take care.
Here are some of the tell-tale signs of possible stress:
1.Acting and Reacting in a defensive, aggressive or impulsive manner
2.Nervous habits like stammering.
3.Loss of interest in activities
4.Avoidance of tasks
5.Distracted easily
6.Withdrawing from Social activities.
7.Excessive smoking and drinking
